UNDIVIDED DEVOTION

“Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.” John 21:7 NIV

There’s something so raw and beautiful about Peter’s response in this moment. No hesitation. No calculating. Just action—because he recognized it was Jesus.

That’s the kind of devotion that can’t be faked. It’s the kind that moves past comfort and pride and dives headfirst into obedience, no matter the cost. But we have all experienced that choosing this level of surrender isn’t always easy. Often, it feels like a quiet war inside—one that presses on our logic, our feelings, and even our sense of control. And yet, these are the crossroads we all face as followers of Christ—those moments where we have to decide whether we’ll keep our safe distance or jump all in.

Whether we’ll fast and pray because it’s what we “should” do, or because we genuinely want to respond to His voice. Whether we’ll let spiritual disciplines shape us inwardly—or just skim the surface for appearances’ sake. Peter shows us what it looks like to abandon the things that weigh us down—fear, uncertainty, pride—and move without delay when Jesus is nearby. That kind of devotion doesn’t need perfect conditions. It just needs a willing heart.

So today, whatever He’s calling you to—big or small, seen or unseen—may it be said of you that you laid it all down and ran straight toward Him.

Prayer: Jesus, I want to be all in. Strip away the layers that keep me hesitant—my doubts, my excuses, my fear of losing control. Give me a heart like Peter’s—one that recognizes Your presence and responds without delay. Help me to live with undivided devotion, not just in the big moments, but in the quiet ones too. I choose You again, fully and freely. Amen.
