THE GIFT OF REMEMBRANCE
“and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” Joshua 4:5-7 NIV
I have often said that part of our unbelief oftentimes is due to forgetting our history with God. Every believer has stories of how God came through for them, how he led them, dreams He gave them and innumerable blessings.
When Paul speaks of the renewal of the mind (Romans 12:2), remembrance is one of the tools to do so. For example, if you are currently facing a need for provision; rehearse the times God provided in supernatural or unexpected ways for you, line up scripture promises that speak of the same and resolve your mind to hold fast to that.
When you gather your evidence and personal stories, it is easy to get from under the cloud of anxious toil and most importantly to praise Him in advance. Such is the counsel portrayed in our scripture, Joshua asked them to collect physical evidence to help their forgetful minds in the days to come.
Child of God, do the same, document these personal God stories in detail and look back in remembrance when your strength is feeble. Praise the Lord!
Prayer: Father I thank you for this word. I hold fast to every experiences and promises as my stones of remembrance. I am learned in the ways I should minister to my inner man for I know the strong spirit of a man is sustains him in difficult times. I am grateful for the gift of your word, and my Lord Jesus for this privilege and for the glory of your name!
