THE GREAT DIVIDE
“Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword.” Matthew 10:34 NLT
It’s important to understand that Jesus is not promoting violence or conflict.
Rather, He is preparing His disciples for the persecution they will face because of their commitment to Him. He also warns that even within the closest of family bonds, division may arise when some choose to follow Him while others reject Him.
Though family is often a place of deep love, allegiance to Christ may bring separation. Jesus makes this clear: “If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine (Matthew 10:37)“. Beloved, no earthly relationship should take precedence over your devotion to God.
While we seek to handle conflicts with wisdom and grace, our intimacy with the Father must never be compromised. May we remain steadfast in Him!
Prayer: Father, thank You for this truth. My highest allegiance is to You. Your ways are always just, and I trust in Your goodness through every season. No matter the cost, I choose to stand firm in my faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
