THE ORDER OF THINGS

“Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.” Proverbs 18:12 NIV

When pride is present in our hearts concerning any dealings, we have a tendency to become defensive or hostile against anything that may bring out that truth.

The proverb above teaches us how to tell we are headed for a fall, it is when our hearts feel the strenuous tension that pride always brings. It also gives us the direct opposite of the same, the cure if you may say to the poisonous thing pride is — humility. For the most part, what causes pride is an insecurity that the enemy hangs over your head convincingly enough to make you believe it would make you a reject.

Conversely, humility leads to exposing that very insecurity while also eliminating shame and disarming the enemy’s empty threat. As a result, you realize it was never as serious as it seemed and the Lord’s reward is honor for braving such storm.

Such is the kingdom of God, foolishness in comparison to all of man’s wits. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. What a joy and a freedom it is to know there is healing, joy and honor on the other side of surrender. Soften what is hardened in my heart that I may respond in humility and be restored, in Jesus name. Amen!
