THE REWARD OF ABIDING

“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7:38 NIV

Spiritual growth begins when our focus is fixed on the true source of life—Jesus Christ.

He is not merely a helper along the journey but the very fountain of living water. When we abide in Him, as He invites us to, His life flows through us effortlessly—like rivers that nourish everything in their path.

Yet many times, we allow ourselves to be distracted. Instead of anchoring our trust in the One who holds all things together, we get entangled in our circumstances. We worry, we strive, and in doing so, we miss the beauty of His sustaining presence. Jesus calls us to consider “the lilies of the field”—how they grow without toil or anxiety, simply by existing in what God has already provided.

God knows the intricacies of your life. Nothing surprises Him. He is both aware and able to care for every detail that concerns you. And when your eyes are fixed on Him—when your heart remains in a posture of trust and intimacy—you begin to overflow. The “rivers” aren’t something you manufacture; they are the natural result of a soul rooted in Christ.

May it be said of you that you considered the lilies and the birds, and in quiet confidence entrusted your life to the One who deeply loves your soul.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for being the eternal source from which all life flows. Teach me to abide—fully and daily—in Your presence. When I’m tempted to worry, remind me of Your faithfulness. My heart is still like the lilies of the field, trusting You completely. Rivers of living water flow from within me, not by my effort, but by Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
