THE SACRIFICE OF WORSHIP
“Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.” John 12:3 NIV
Worship and praise have a particular way to connect us back to our purpose in God, especially on a hard day.
Our theme scripture highlights three important aspects of true worship: (1) it must cost us something (2) it ministers to God (3) and it entrenches us into the same glory that flows from God. The woman had spent a year’s wage worth (cost) she had worshipped the Lord in a way only he is worthy (ministered to God) and Jesus wasn’t the only one that left the room drenched with the smell of the expensive perfume but she did as well and the entire room (sharing into his glory).
Child of God, true worship is never without faith and everything that requires faith is a pleasant sacrifice. Not only this, fire always falls on sacrifice and when we worship especially in our hardest moments where it feels like forcing our body, we are the sacrifice, consequently making it impossible to remain the same.
This is how we fight our battles. Praise God!
Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. I will praise you regardless of my circumstances not because of what I get from it but how it aligns my heart to my new nature and identity in Christ. I am tamed and aligned to this pattern all my days, in Jesus name. Amen!
