THE SIMPLICITY OF GODLY WISDOM
“Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:22-24 NIV
When you hear the stories of how people come to know the Lord, you quickly realize the simplicity of Christ. Some are transformed after near-death experiences that convince them of God’s existence, others encounter supernatural healing, and some are simply invited to church by a persistent friend, where the message convicts them to turn their lives around.
In our scripture, Paul explains why many fail to recognize the Lord—one group demands signs to believe, while another seeks logical explanations to rationalize the divine. Christ came not as the powerful king many expected, but as a humble child, born to a modest family, walking among the poor, and mingling with society’s outcasts. It was the simple and the rejected who saw His majesty, while the learned and the elite sought to crucify Him.
This same pattern persists today. Though we may not physically crucify Him, we figuratively do so when we reject His transformative power, ignoring the abundant evidence of His presence in our lives. Ultimately, the question remains: will we recognize Him for who He truly is, or will we, like those before us, dismiss the simplicity and depth of His grace?
Prayer: Father, I thank you for this wisdom. I have trained my spirit to be attuned to the simplicity that is found in Christ that I may not miss your hand in the mundane. I keep my gaze on you whether on the mountain top or the valleys lows of life, that I may glorify you, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
