TO CHILDREN (I)

“Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”  Colossians 3:20 NIV

Obeying our parents brings immeasurable blessings, and this is something I cannot stress enough.

While our parents are human and, like all of us, will make mistakes, God has given them a unique grace to speak into our lives. They hold a special responsibility as stewards of our lives, and their words can have a lasting impact because of that assignment. Even when we grow older and gain the wisdom to make our own decisions, this does not diminish the authority our parents still have in speaking into our lives. There are still respectful ways to disagree, and often the wisest course is to yield, for it brings peace and avoids unnecessary offense (Ecclesiastes 10:4). Beloved, remember that honoring your parents is the one commandment with a promise attached: “that you may live long, and it may go well with you.” This divine order is set in place, and God will not alter it to suit our personal desires or stubbornness.

Honor your parents, for in doing so, you unlock blessings beyond measure. Praise be to God!

Prayer: Father, thank You for this wisdom. I repent for any way I’ve dishonored my parents, knowingly or unknowingly. Fill my heart with grace to honor them as You have honored me, and show me creative ways to do so all my days, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

CI.
