UNDERSTANDING GRACE

“This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.” Colossians 1:6 NLT

Paul gives us an interesting perspective on grace, that its not enough to hear it but to also understand it. Non-believers don’t think they need salvation because they don’t see the depth of their need.

Ironically, many believers who have received salvation by faith also slide over into thinking this grace is deserved. You see it in the demeanor they have and swiftness they lack when it comes to sharing the hope they have. A good example would be Jonah, who had a relationship with the Lord and was a prophet in his time. Jonah depicted the latter by feeling dismayed that God would want to have anything to do with a corrupt city such as Nineveh, much less save them. Such is unfortunately the posture of many, and the most prevalent hindrance to the Gospel.

Child of God, the grace we have all received is undeserved, but we can only increase in its full measure when we are both encouraged and humbled by it. Praise God!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. May the eyes of my heart be flooded with understanding so that I may know the hope to which I have been called and the glorious riches of your inheritance as a holy witness, in Jesus name. Amen!
